National behavioural change campaign on sanitation and hygiene.

Mtu Ni Afya is the national sanitation campaign implemented by the Government through the Ministry of Health. To achieve improved health and well-being for the public by preventing disease spread through informed community practices. We use the channels on the right to deliver a campaign message to the target audience.

On Ground

These are on-ground activations which involve direct contact with the target audience with the use of the mobile theatre. Target audience per roadshow is at least 500 people. Read More

The campaign uses different Television programmes and services. TV programs are used for airing behaviour change communication messages targeting heads of households to upgrade their latrines and wash hands with soap. Read More

To amplify and sustain the campaign. This is done by the creation of fast, reactive contents that completely hits the mark and sparks that get the campaign to reach the target audience

On Radio

The campaign uses different radio products and services to deliver the core message and reaches the highest number of its target audience and at a relatively low cost. Read More

To amplify and sustain the campaign, the campaign utilises digital media. This is done by the creation of fast, reactive contents that completely hits the mark and sparks that get the campaign to reach the target audience. Read More

On Display

The campaign uses different display form: billboards, signs, posters, fliers, collaterals and paintings. To sustain the campaign messages.

On Print

The campaign uses to share news, headlines, articles and stories on magazines and newspapers concerning updates on the campaign, pictures and stories. Print media is one of the communication channels that convey headlines and updates to printed publication. This will cover audiences and respondents who are interested on reading publications.

The campaign calls for households to construct and use improved latrines, construct Hand washing facilities next to the toilets, proper use of toilets for excreta only, Containment of litter/cleanness, reduce stigma around Menstrual Health & Hygiene (Break the Silence) and doing vigorous physical activity for 30 minutes every day.

Currently, 75% of household with improved toilet facility (Tanzania standard), 44% of households with basic hand washing facility (soap and water available) and 63% of households with waste storage facility. Source NSMis, 2023
